VARB has updated the listing of foodbanks and community meals available in the Borough and included details of Christmas opening hours. See the listing here (updated November 2019) Download
Foodbanks provide emergency food parcels for individuals and families facing a crisis. Some foodbanks can also offer help with utility top-ups for heating and cooking and basic toiletries.
Community meals are hot meals that are available free of charge or heavily subsidised. These are generally open to all (although some require pre-booking.) They may be of interest to people facing financial hardship, in particular those without access to cooking facilities; or for those who are socially isolated and would enjoy sharing a meal with others.
- If you are an individual who needs to access a foodbank you will usually need a voucher from a referral agency such as Citizens Advice Bureau or Community Debt Advice. See here for a longer list of referral agencies.
- If you are an agency and you would like to make referrals to a foodbank, please contact the foodbank(s) directly to receive referral vouchers that you can pass on to your clients.
- If you are a local employer or group and would like to make a food donation, please visit the website of your local foodbank to see what types of food would be most useful and/or contact the foodbank to discuss drop off arrangements. See here for further details.
