Communicating with Confidence with People Living with Dementia

A 2.5-hour course designed for volunteers and staff in the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector who work with People Living with Dementia.

The training has been organised by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and will be delivered by Alix Lewer, Director of local charity Include.Org.

Alix Lewer has over 15 years’ experience as a speech and language therapist and NHS Safeguarding Lead and has personal experience of the consequences of communication difficulties. In 2018, she founded Include.org, a local charity working to better include people with all types of communication difficulties.

The course will run twice:

Time: 10 – 12.30pm
Venue: The Banstead Centre, The Horseshoe, Bolters Lane, Banstead, SM7 2BQ

Date: Thursday 16 June 2022
Time: 1 – 3.30 pm
Venue: Regent House Community Centre, Albert Road, Horley, Surrey RH6 7JA.

Course Outcomes

  • gain insight into the communication challenges faced by people living with different types of dementia
  • understand the impact communication change has on mental health, wellbeing and relationships
  • understand the role of the communication partner
  • an introduction to inclusive communication strategies and tools which can help

Cost

This course is free of charge to staff and volunteers working for organisations delivering front-line support to residents of Reigate & Banstead.
