Technology has the potential to transform the way we deliver services in the voluntary sector. However, most voluntary staff are not tech “experts” and resources are tight; so it can sometimes be a challenge to embrace new technology and we can be left feeling like the proverbial dinosaur.
“Why Tech Matters” is a voluntary sector network event to help address this challenge. The event will share ideas and experience of using technology for good; whilst keeping it real about the resources we have available.
It is aimed at all trustees, managers, staff and volunteers within the local voluntary, community and faith sector. You do not need to be an IT expert to attend! A willingness to try new approaches is the only requirement.
The event will include speakers from national and local organisations and cover:
- What is tech and why it is important for the voluntary sector
- Simple ways to approach the use of tech in your organisation
- Where to find free and low cost resources to support the use of tech
- Case studies from local organisations – sharing ideas on how they are using tech creatively to improve their services
The event will take place from 10am to 12.30pm on Thursday 26 September at St Mark’s Hall, Banstead. There is no charge but please register in advance to assist with planning.

Please note this event will also be used as the formal AGM of Voluntary Action Reigate & Banstead where we will (briefly) present our annual report and accounts and elect new board trustees. VARB trustees and staff will be available for questions during and after the event.
