Grief Support Group Volunteer (TD)

Grief Support Group Support volunteer

Could you give up some of your time to a help to support a  child or young person who has suffered the death of someone close to them?

We run Grief Support Groups for bereaved families usually over a six week period which we hope to re-instate once government guidelines allow us to do so in Horley and Guildford.  Mean time we are supporting our families via the internet and telephone and hope to use volunteers to assist us in our work and we are in the process of mapping new roles.

Interviews will take place on line and all volunteers are required to attend a one day training session and the next is planned for July/August via video communication.

Groups carry out various activities to encourage communication and remember the person who has died, build and keep memories and learn some coping strategies.

The groups sessions require approximately 3 hours per week plus 1 Saturday for the length of the six week programme once they re-start

What skills do I need?

This role requires experience of bereavement, ability to sympathise/emphasise, ability to work in a team participating in activities.  Use of a car (as venues are not easily accessible by public transport.
