Being a Committee Member/Trustee of East Surrey Mencap is an interesting and fulfilling role and the Committees’ effectiveness will determined by the benefit it derives from individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences and skill sets.

- keeping members up to date on issues that have an impact on the lives of people with a learning disability and their families

 

-  putting members in touch with organisations that can help them

 

-  contributing to forums that enable like-minded organisations to share issues and opportunities that will have an impact on people with a learning disability and their Carer’s in East Surrey

 

-  maintaining a presence on consultative groups and, where appropriate, making representations to Surrey County Council and local health bodies.

There are 6 meetings a year at 8pm in the evening and at the home of a Trustee.  

What skills do I need?

Do you have skills in one or more of the following:

  •   social care and health services for people with a learning disability and autism
  •   education of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities
  •   supporting voluntary organisations
  •   marketing, business development and/or fundraising
  •   IT and the use of social media
  •   experience of receiving services social care and/or health services or supporting someone to do so

Availability Details

Six Committee meetings per year at Trustee homes with 8pm start. Attendance at sub-committee and/or representative group meetings where relevant.
