Help with the Community Fridge

← Back to search results

We have a cafe serving food made from surplus ingredients, which helps to reduce the wastage of food and therefore the environmental impact of food waste (which is HUGE!)

We host art exhibitions and events in our cafe and workshop space - from talks related to climate change to live music, film nights to craft workshops

We have a Biodiversity group that has many active projects inluding a community allotment, an orchard, and rewilding projects.

Our Aims

Talking Tree CIC is working to;

  1. protect and preserve the environment to make our locality fit for generations to come.
  2. to advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment.
  3. promote waste reduction, re-use, reclamation, recycling, use of recycled products and the use of surplus.
  4. promote the use of renewable energy sources.
  5. promote sustainable development and biodiversity.
  6. engage with all in our local community to help achieve the changes that are needed.
  7. create safer and more accessible spaces.

Availability Details

To begin with the fridge will open on a Friday and Saturday only. We need two volunteers to help EACH day: 1) Someone to collect food from Sainsburys in Chertsey at approximately 11am Friday / Saturday , bring it to Talking Tree, log the volume and put it in the fridge / shelving. 2) Someone to pop to Talking Tree at close of business (3.30pm) Friday / Saturday, log the volume remaining / taken and dispose of any perishable items that won’t last until the next fridge session. We also need someone to thoroughly clean the fridge and shelving once per week on a Tuesday and complete the cleaning log – anytime during opening hours. If a volunteer can spare an hour or two on Friday or Saturday or Tuesday to help, even if they cannot do it every week, we’d love to hear from them.
