Tech Angels
Become a Tech Angel Volunteer
Do you enjoy helping others? Are you confident with technology? Do you have 2-3 hours per week to spare? Why not join our team of Tech Angel volunteers across Surrey! Many older people and people with disabilities experience difficulties getting online – our wonderful volunteers provide one-to-one support to help them with this.
Technology can help people to gain or regain their independence by allowing them to shop or bank online. It can prevent isolation, as the internet allows connection with family, friends or vital services via messages or videocalls. It also provides a source of entertainment and relaxation. When a person doesn’t have access to the internet they are deprived of all this – our volunteers help them to gain or regain this access. When you volunteer with us you will use your people skills and experience of technology to help others in all sorts of ways, from helping someone learn to use a touchscreen for the first time, through building up their confidence and moving on to using email, attending online videocalls and accessing vital services online.
What skills do I need?
Excellent communication skills
Be a patient person to first time computer users or those who may lack IT skills
Good knowledge of technology including mobile devices, applications and settings (although you are certainly not expected to be an expert!)
An understanding of data protection and adult safeguarding principles (training will be provided)
