Would you like to join the board of a local charity whose vision is to improve the lives of older people in Elmbridge? Do you have business experience, an interest in the issues surrounding the elderly living in the UK and a desire to give those who need a helping hand somewhere to go to get help and support?

We are a small charity for older people and have been serving the local community for over 60 years. Our aim is to provide advice, friendship, and support to reduce loneliness and social isolation and alleviate financial hardship.

We consistently achieve remarkable things with minimal resources and are often told we have changed people's lives. We support those older people in our area who need help with completing the paperwork required to claim the benefits they are entitled to, and we arrange befriending relationships and social events to ensure older people lead full, dignified and independent lives.

We rely on a dedicated team of staff, trustees and volunteers to deliver these essential and beneficial services.

We seek an additional trustee to be our Treasurer. You will be part of a small and friendly team of trustees and staff who are passionate about helping older people.

The main role is to maintain an overview of the charity’s financial affairs and ensure its financial viability; control expenditure; ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained; and fulfil regulatory reporting requirements. CHEER does not employ a finance officer or company secretary and therefore the Treasurer plays a greater role in financial, accounting, regulatory and governance issues.

Our trustees are all volunteers, most of whom live or work in the local community, and all of whom use their skills, knowledge and experience to help guide and govern our service, shape strategy, and give direction to the charity. This is an opportunity for you to make a real difference to the charity and to the local community. If you have the commitment and enthusiasm for the aims of the charity and a passion to improve the lives of older people, we would love to hear from you.

A CV will be required as part of the application process.

The role will be predominately home-based. Board meetings would normally take place in the Claygate Centre for Community where CHEER’s office is located. Claygate Centre for the Community Elm Road Claygate KT10 0EH
