Voluntary Learning Support Worker (SP)

We need a volunteer to support an existing team in the delivery of our structured programmes to an appropriate level, support group work and individual training packages to a small group of young people. You would assist each young person to develop a portfolio of work in the context of their Personal Development Plan, support the monitoring and recording of training delivery as required. Ensure all work is delivered and evaluated in accordance with the programme's Equal Opportunities policy. Commitment to regular hours during term time, from 2+ hrs per week. This opportunity will involve a Criminal Records Bureau check.

What skills do I need?

Good all round level of education and/or life experiences is essential. A nationally recognised qualification e.g. Youth Work, Teaching and a First Aid certificate are desirable.

Experience in learning support or similar educational environment, either in the course of training or an earlier post are essential. Would be of benefit if you can show an understanding of group-work dynamics and have an experience in the delivery of group-work and personalised training. At least 1 year's experience working with young people is desired.

Must be confident and able to communicate clearly, have good interpersonal skills, have a clear understanding of the value and process of monitoring and evaluating and have a clear understanding of Equal Opportunities issues and be able to relate this to practice. Would be an advantage if you have a working knowledge of Health & Safety issues, good administration skills, a knowledge of the issues relevant to young people, able to use appropriate methods to engage disaffected young people and have a knowledge of Child Protection issues.

You must be able to form non-judgemental and constructive relationships with young people aged 14-16 years and to hold and understand clear boundaries. You must be able to work constructively as a member of a team and be enthusiastic, tolerant, dedicated and have a sense of humour.

Would be a benefit if you hold a current and valid driver's licence and car.
