To be responsible for all financial matters including the branch bank balance appertaining to the branch and to ensure the branch finances are kept in accordance with Versus Arthritis charity principles. The Treasurer is answerable to the branch Chairman.
The Branch has some 65 members mostly female with an average age of 75 and are all arthritis sufferers. The branch meets on the 4th Thursday of the month, 11 months of the year at 1.30pm at the Woodhatch Centre. Meetings start with a voluntary exercise class followed by a speaker on medical or hobbies of interest followed by a tea.
There were 2 or 3 outings in a normal year and a tea party and Xmas lunch. All activities are heavily subsidized by branch funds. Funds are raised by council donations, a small annual levy by each member and misc donations by people or local donations. Currently the branch reserves are satisfactory. Average turnover is £4000. The bank account is operated by two signature cheques. The Treasurer would be expected to attend monthly meetings and there are approximately 6 committee meetings a year. Cash from members tends to be collected at monthly meetings. The current committee comprises six people.
Maintaining contact with the finance department of the main charity Versus Arthritis and completing an annual return.
What skills do I need?
A knowledge of accounting, working with a group, being able to get on with elderly people and being sympathetic to members problems.
