Keep footpaths clear

Keep footpaths clear

Keeping footpaths clear is important at all times.  It makes a big difference for people with access needs, such as those with prams or wheelchairs, the elderly and sight impaired.  With social distancing still vital, keeping footpaths clear is more important than ever.

Please check your hedges or trees that border onto footpaths and cut them back where necessary.   This will help to maximise the space for passing and prevent people from needing to walk in the road.  If you are feeling fit but have an elderly neighbour, you could also offer to trim their hedge/tree.

Please take extreme care if using any power tools.  Also check for nesting birds before starting any work (it is illegal to disturb them.)

If you are unable to trim back a hedge or tree and have concerns about it blocking the footpath, then you can report it to Surrey County Council who will decide what action can be taken.
