Supporting those living with Dementia
This short course will look at the different types of dementia and practical strategies to help understand and support someone living with dementia to maintain their independence.
This course is free of charge and does not require any particular skills or experience. It will be useful to those living with and/or caring for someone with memory problems. It would also be useful for volunteers helping to support neighbours or clients with dementia.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Describe the different types and form dementia takes and how to distinguish this from other conditions.
- Explain how someone with dementia might feel and experience the world around them.
- Identify and use communication strategies for interacting more effectively with someone with dementia.
- Identify environmental changes to help someone with dementia to be more oriented and independent in their daily activities.
